So often we hear potential clients, friends and family deny themselves therapy based on finances. They say they can’t afford it. However, as therapists we would argue that they can’t afford not to go to therapy. Afterall, neglecting one’s values and problems can create great anxiety, stress and depression. Now don’t get me wrong, sometimes money really is the issue. However, often times, it is an excuse. A way to avoid addressing the elephant in the room and run away from the challenges at hand.
In this way, consulting solo and group practice owners can be similar to our patients. Practice owners don’t want to spend any money to make money. And the cycle persists.
Believe me, I get it. When I first started as a solo practice owner, I was scared. There were so many unknowns. Can I keep my business afloat? Do we have the space? Where do I find clients? So many unknowns. How was I going to map out this uncharted territory? As with everything in life, I prayed. God showed me ways to succeed. He introduced me to people that had mapped out the path I wanted to go down. He also showed me how to accept help from others. In those early days of my practice, I decided to join a mastermind group. Joining that group was life-changing. It took me from being a solo practice owner to quadrupling my income in a 2 year span. Not only did my professional life flourish, so did my personal life. To this day, some of my nearest and dearest friend are from that original mastermind group. We STILL call each other for advice and meet regularly.
Like with therapy, mastermind groups demand growth. You are held accountable by others. That is why today I want to talk to you about getting held accountable, focusing on what you love and community outreach. Because all three of these things are going to add value without having to spend a ton of money.
